City Council Workshop on 'Unsustainable' Pension Plan
Read the report yourself in this article
The Healdsburg City Council meets tonight, not in regular session but in working session. Tonight's topic is one alone: a 'Pension Workshop' built upon a sereis of talking points that questions the sustainability of the current pension plan.
The workshop report, attached to this article as a PDF, was prepared by City of Healdsburg staff. It poses two primary points:
- Our CalPERS defined benefit plan is not fiscally sustainable.
- The City’s opportunities to lower benefits are limited by California State Government Code.
The workshop will consider the pension plans under CalPERS, the California Public Employee Retirement System, in which Healdsburg and most municipal governments participate.
