Happy Spring!

What's coming up this week (and beyond) in Healdsburg

1.  Let’s consider the Great Russian River Race at the joint City Council/Redevelopment Agency meeting. On the agenda: consider Russian Riverkeeper’s request “to allow consumption of alcohol at Veteran’s Memorial Beach at the Great Russian River Race party on May 7, 2011.”  Tonight, Mar., 21, 6:00pm, City Hall council chambers, 401 Grove St.

2. Healdsburg High School Concert Band and Healdsburg Community Band will be joined by an Oregon High School Concert Band for an evening of musical delight. The bands will directed by former HHS student Ron Izzett, who played under the iconic Lew Sbrana.  Sbrana was a long-standing band teacher in the Healdsburg schools, as well as the founder of the Healdsburg Community Band. Tues., Mar. 22 Healdsburg Community Church, 1100 University Ave., 7:30pm. Free.

3. It's all about planning in Healdsburg. The Healdsburg Planning Commission will meet Tues., Mar. 22, 6:00pm.  On the agenda: public hearing of the “Oakville Grocery Design Review.” City Hall council chambers, 401 Grove St.

4. Dance your heart out.  Three classes of tap, ballet and jazz (ages 3-4, 5-7 and 7-9) start tomorrow at the Healdsburg Community Center.  In Healdsburg Parks and Rec is offering a beginning tap class for teens and adults.  Sign-up here.

5. A call to artists from the Healdsburg Center for the Arts. “Around the Mountain” members show applications are due Wed., Mar. 23.  All mediums are included.  The gallery is open every day from 11:00am – 5:00pm, 130 Plaza St.

Advance notice: deadline for the. Healdsburg Arts Festival applications is Apr. 11.  The juried festival will include 75 fine art and craft artists.  The 5th Annual Healdsburg Arts Festival will be held Sat., Sept. 24 in the Plaza.  Applications here.
