Healdsburg Farmers Market is Fresh, Local and Weekly

Saturday morning is the time to visit the Farmers Market in the lot at North and Vine, from 9 - noon.

Another season of the Healdsburg Farmers Market is well underway, with the fourth Saturday market of the year coming up this weekend. The market is open from 9 a.m. to noon.

It’s still in the growth phase this year – last Saturday there were 47 vendors, though the North St. parking lot at Vine has room for about ten more.

Market director Mary Kelley emphasizes that the Healdsburg Farmer’s Market is just that. “We still have a majority of vendors who are farmers,” she said. “I think at least 60% are agriculture-related.”

This weekend local fisherman Dave Legro will be on hand with the first of this season’s fresh-caught local wild salmon. “He never sells farmed salmon,” said Kelly.

This Saturday will also mark the appearance of the first fruit of the year from Dry Creek Peach, so far exclusively at the Healdsburg Farmers Market. “We're now preparing for our first harvest of Rich May yellow peaches,” wrote Gayle Okumura Sullivan recently to her customers.

“As you may know, the season starts slowly at the end of May/June and then builds into July, August, and we typically conclude mid-September. We're almost there, can't you just taste that first ripe peach?”

Dry Creek Peach will open their farm stand on Yoakam Bridge Rd. in late June.

Other fresh produce at the Healdsburg Farmers Market on Saturday should include apricots, cherries, artichokes, asparagus, lettuce and all manner of greens.

“We are still primarily local,” said Kelly. “At least 50% is grown within 10 miles of the Plaza.”

There will also soon be a Wednesday afternoon Farmers Market, across the street at the Purity / Cerri building parking lot, on the east side of the Purity building. That starts June 5, and runs through the end of October; hours will be 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
