How About Peace?

An opportunity for local activism, tomorrow's American Legion Crab Feed, and a sneak preview.

1. You’ll receive a welcoming reception…at the Healdsburg Center for the Arts “Where Wild Things Are” artists’ reception this evening. Eight juried artists are showing their works featuring nature in the wild. The show, which runs from Feb. 2 – 28, is in support of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter.  Healdsburg artist Mylette Welch, who specializes in fine art paintings of dogs, has donated art for the raffle that will be held in conjunction with the show and proceeds will benefit HAS. Tickets available at the Center, where the artwork can be seen.  This is an all-media show.  Artists’ Reception tonight 5:00 – 7:00pm 130 Plaza St.

2. Do you want to give peace a chance? The Healdsburg Peace Project is joining a vigil to protest violent repression in Egypt, as well as in support of Bradley Manning from 5:30 – 6:30pm in Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa.  HPP will carpool from The Flying Goat, 324 Center St., 5:00pm. 3.  Where’s Johnny?  At, of course!  Open mic for musicians, tonight. Let your hair down and come out to have some fun! 60a Mill St. 8:00 – 10:30pm. 433.3377

4.  Still feeling crabby?  That will go away after tomorrow evening’s American Legion Crab Feed! 4:00 – 7:00pm. Villa Chanticleer. $40 donation. This is the biggest fundraiser for the American Legion.

5. Sneak preview!  Writers Roy Kersey and John Norton will appear at next Tues., Feb. 8 Center Literary Café from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The Pushcart Prize-winning Kersey, whose copious work has appeared in more than eighty magazines, has released a new novel, Pacazo.  Norton is a writer and editor who resides in Silicon Valley.  His new book of poems is Air Transmigra.  See these two writers and read your own short work at the open mic (limit 3 minutes).  Tues., Feb. 8 Center Literary Café from 7:00 – 9:00pm. Healdsburg Senior Center, 133 Matheson St.
