What in the World is Happening in Healdsburg this Week?

From music to horseback riding, from literary events to a call for artists, there's much to do in and out of Healdsburg.

1.  Tuesday's Planning Commission meeting is cancelled.

2. The Center Literary Café will hold two events this week. The Center Literary Café presents poet Carlos Reyes, Tues., May 10, 7:00 – 9:00pm. Open mic Healdsburg Senior Center, 133 Matheson St.

3.  Fiber artists, hear the call.  Healdsburg Center for the Arts is accepting applications for another show.  Applications for the next two show cases are due soon.  Art in the Garden applications are due Thurs., May 12 and Fiber Artistry applications are due Mon., May 16.

4. The sound of music. Healdsburg High School and Junior High Spring Concert, Thurs., May 12, 7:30pm  HJHS gym 315 Grant Street

5. "Anatomy of Jazz" is the title of the newest Jazz Appreciation Course, featuring 5-time Grammy nominee John Santos.  Sun. May 15, 6:00pm Fee $15 / Student and Senior $10 A Healdsburg Center for the Arts and Healdsburg Jazz Festival collaboration.

6. Healdsburg Literary Guild presents Ken Dalton at the Third Sunday Salon. Local writer, Ken Dalton, author of The Bloody Birthright and The Big Show Stopper will read from his works. 1:30pm sign up for open mic, 2:00 – 4:00pm

7.  Healdsburg Community Band Spring Concert.  Listen to the music as you “March Through Time” at Healdsburg Community Church, 1100 University St., Sun., May 15, 3:00pm

8.  Adults with a yearning to refresh their horseback riding skills you now have a new opportunity from Anna Levinger of Red’s Riding School.  “I am putting together small groups of adults for lessons with the fantastic coach Michelle VanStone.”  Both English and Western riding styles will be coached. 478-5110

9. Spa Dolce—How sweet it is. This full service day spa, “is the latest creation of owner Ines von Majthenyi Scherrer, a Swiss-trained esthetician,”  Formerly Alles European Day Spa in Windsor, the new venue is “offering massage, body services, waxing, facials, makeup, nail care and more.” 250 Center St. (next to Oakville Grocery)  433-0177

10. A screening of Carbon Nation. From the press release: “Supervisor Efren Carrillo will open the evening with remarks about current climate protection and renewable energy efforts. .” Summerfield Cinemas, 551 Summerfield Rd, Santa Rosa 6:45pm $15 “All proceeds benefit the Climate Protection Campaign's local programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and stimulate energy efficiency and renewable energy.”
