Give Hunger the Boot with Jen Chapin at Kick-off Concert

Hanna Winery proudly joins national "kick hunger" campaign with singer Jen Chapin

WhyHunger, a leading nonprofit in the fight against hunger and poverty, kicks off it the “Homemade Jams: 100 House Concerts to End Hunger” campaign with a performance at Alexander Valley’s Hanna Winery on Friday, June 28 from 5 -8 p.m.

Headlining will be Jen Chapin, daughter of WhyHunger’s founder Harry Chapin, and like him a folk singer with a social conscience. Her music might be characterized as “urban folk soul” — story songs that search for community and shared meaning, powered by the funk and improvisation of the city.

“At Hanna, we’ve been fortunate to know the joys of a bountiful table, and felt compelled to help,” said Christine Hanna, not only the winery president but an avid cook and cookbook author herself.  “The more we learned about WhyHunger and its sustainable approach to tackling this issue, the more we knew it was the organization we wanted to team up with.”

A mere month after the release of Chapin’s new album, “Reckoning,” she will perform with the Jen Chapin Trio at the Homemade Jam concert at Hanna Winery. Featured in her new album are songs on the challenge of balancing creative ambitions with the immediate demands of mothering small children -- combined with a good dose of social commentary.

The event will include wine, dinner and the trio performance. Hanna Winery is located at the southern end of Alexander Valley and features excellent views of the Tuscan terrain of the AV terroir. Tickets are now just $70, with proceeds going to support WhyHunger's mission to ensure access to healthy, affordable food for all.
