Redford Film Tonight at the Raven Explores Western Water Issues

A new documentary from Robert Redford is one of several upcoming events from Healdsburg's Russian Riverkeeper.

The Russian River has been embraced as the heart of Healdsburg recently, with the revival of the and other similar events. But in many ways it's just a symbol of the larger issue of water quality, rights and conservation. Healdsburg-based is well aware of these issues, and has two upcoming events that are both educational and proactive.

Tonight, Riverkeeper is hosting a free screening of a new movie produced and narrated by Robert Redford, "Watershed: Exploring a New Water Ethic for the New West." The documentary tells the story of the threats to the once-mighty Colorado River and offers solutions for the future of the American West.

"Watershed" will screen at the from 7 - 8:30 p.m.. A short panel discussion will follow the hour-long movie. You can view the preview with this article or watch the trailer online here.

This weekend, Riverkeeper will continue its drive to with a clean-up sponsored by Waterkeeper Alliance and Teva. Riverkeeper provides tools, gloves and equipment and volunteers need to wear sturdy shoes and long pants. The clean-up event takes place Saturday morning, 8:30 to noon; participants are asked to meet at the , 3 North Street. If you're interested, RSVP here.
