The Cloverdale Reveille, the weekly newspaper in Sonoma County's northernmost town, has been sold to Sonoma West Publishers, the same group that owns the Healdsburg Tribune, Windsor Times and Sonoma West Times & News in Sebastopol.

In 1988 Bonny Jean (BJ) Hanchett purchased the Reveille from Dean DeVries, who, at one time, had also owned The Healdsburg Tribune. BJ and her late husband Ross Hanchett owned the Clear Lake Observer, selling that newspaper in 1986, prior to moving to Cloverdale. Children Val, Roberta Lyons and Kathryn McKaig have all worked at the Reveille. The Hanchetts also owned The Campbell Express, near San Jose for 15 years.
Neena Hanchett, Val’s wife, went to work on a “temporary, part-time basis” several years ago, in what turned out to be a new full-time career for her.

“The community of Cloverdale has been my life,” said Neena. “I especially enjoy working with all the local businesses and the chamber of commerce, keeping us all as successful as possible.”
The Reveille began publication in 1879; the Healdsburg Tribune 14 years earlier, in 1865.

Rollie Atkinson, publisher of Sonoma West, is quoted as saying, “All of our newspapers serve a local and distinct community. Each one has its own editor and staff and carries its own independent voice. By combining some business and support services — especially a larger advertising audience and reach — we are able to add valuable strength and shared talents to each of the papers.”
Of particular interest to Healdsburg readers of the Tribune, current editor Kerrie Lindecker will take over as the Reveille editor, effective July 1. Lindecker is a Cloverdale resident.
