Himalayan Restaurant Opens in Healdsburg

Kabob and Tandoori Ghar is located at 1280 Healdsburg Ave.

A pair of Nepali immigrants have brought Himalayan cuisine to Healdsburg with their second restaurant in Sonoma County.

Kabob and Tandoori Ghar opened this fall at 1280 Healdsburg Ave., Suite 101. Owners Rabin and Tara Lama also operate Himalayan Restaurant in Windsor, and say they're happy to be expanding.

"They're very happy we're here," Tara Lama said of the customers at their new restaurant.

Himalayan food, she explained, is similar to Indian cuisine but with milder spices. The restaurant's specialty is chicken tikka masala, a dish made of marinated chicken swimming in a bright orange sauce.

The pair said their Windsor restaurant, which opened three years ago, is "always busy," and recently had a customer who drove all the way from Sacramento to be there.

Rabin and Tara Lama immigrated from Nepal nine years ago.

"We love freedom," Tara Lama said. "We can live a happy life here."

Kabab and Tandoori Ghar held a ribbon-cutting with the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce late last month.

The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner. It's closed on Mondays.
