Signs of Progress: Musical Chairs in Downtown Business District

Lively activity in Healdsburg seems to be positive trend, merchants say.

More than a half-dozen stores and restaurants are shuffling around in downtown Healdsburg -- a movement merchants say spells business uptick.

"I think all of this is encouraging news because we are having positive things happening in town -- instead of store closings!," said Ellie Naill of one of the shops moving to a new location. "It lifts everyone's spirits to see signs of progress."

Four changes are centered around Copperfield's Books on Matheson Street:

--Bovolo cafe moved out of the back of Copperfield's to Front Street at the site of Davis Family Vineyards. Bovolo also changed its name to called Zazu on the River.

--Greek restaurant Sofia Taverna moved in, but is located alongside Copperfield's instead of in the back where Bovolo had been. Sofia Taverna is only accessible  off of Healdsburg Avenue.

--Copperfield's closed off half its space.

--One World Fair Trade is moving in next to Copperfield's.

Elsewhere, Lulo's is expanding their space on Center Street, the same street where the Mercantile Shop also moved in, replacing which moved to a new space on the other side of Center Street.

And of course, Patch has already documented the Healdsburg restaurant merry-go-round.

For a recap, Bravas Bar de Tapas moved into the former Ravenous Cafe space on Center Street. Ravenous, for its part, moved to a new location on North Street next to the Raven Performing Arts Center.

Pizzando moved into the corner space at Matheson Street and Healdsburg Avenue formerly occupied by Cafe Newsstand. And Scopa owner Ari Rosen opened his second eatery, just down the street.

Finally, Healdsburg foodies are already packing into the new New-Orleans-style Parish Cafe on Mill Street, in the space formerly occupied by Johnny's Off the Plaza.

Whew! All that moving is building up a thirst...anyone for a glass of wine at Cyrus? Uh, scratch that -- Doug and Nick just moved out too!
