Early Morning Lightning Storm Wakes Up Healdsburg

Yesterday's uncertain weather, the result of a rapidly-moving low pressure system, culminated in a lightning storm that seemed to settle over Fitch Mountain in the early morning hours.

The lightning and resulting thunder rumbled through town starting at about 1:30 a.m. for about an hour, and intermittently thereafter. The cloud-to-ground strikes resulted in crackling and thunder that woke many residents, and frightened cats, dogs and other animal life.

One house in a residential part of Healdsburg was reported struck by lighting according to by the Police Dept. Damage was done to the house's electrical system, but no fire resulted.

The house, on Daisy Lane east of Healdsburg Ave., was quiet this morning as a light rainfall replaced last night's pyrotechnics.

Elsewhere north of the bay, lighting strikes were spotted in Lake, Napa, Sonoma and Solano counties this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Nearby, strikes were reported in Windsor and Cloverdale as well as Healdsburg. One victim was the weather tower at the Central Fire headquarters in Windsor, according to the Press Democrat, which is now out of service.

This morning Healdsburg Fire Dept. personnel were responding to reports of a vegetation fire on Chalk Hill Rd.
