Girl Scouts cookie-selling is now so high-tech, you can do almost everything but eat the treats via a computer link or a smartphone app.
Healdsburg and Sonoma County troops are selling cookies locally this weekend -- as they do every year.
However, according to the Girl Scouts' website, this year is most decidedly high tech. For example, if you don't want to wait until someone comes to your house, you can download a "Cookie Locator Mobile App" for your Smartphone by clicking here.
Smartphone and iPhone customers can also access the "Cookie Locator App" by calling **GSCOOKIES and downloading the “FindCookies” app sent to your smartphone via text. (Data and messaging rates apply).
Or, you can also call **GSCOOKIES and sign up for e-mail alerts that will let you know when cookies will be near you, according to the Girl Scouts cookie sellling website.
Girls Scouts will be selling eight cookie varieties this year--Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Dulce de Leche and Thank U Berry Munch.
Girl Scouts of Northern California is also launching a new program -- "Cookies on Demand. " That means that no pre-ordering is necessary: Girl Scouts will be out in force during this weekend's "Neighborhood Walkabout Weekend."
Troops will alsp be selling in front of stores starting Feb. 25.
The eight varieties cost $4 a box, with proceeds benefitting Girl Scouts programs.
