A Streetcar Named Desire

"Stella! Hey, Stella!" The
steamy showdown between down-on-her-luck aristocrat Blanche and
her sister Stella’s pugnacious blue-collar husband, Stanley,
hurtles the entire family toward an epic battle. Streetcar,
Tennessee Williams’s most celebrated work, shocked mid-century
audiences with its frank depiction of sexuality and brutality
onstage.

Marlon Brando's famous cry first rang from the stage over 50 years
ago. And yet the human emotions, economic challenges, and sexual
violence are still relevant today, and so is the question—why does
Stella stay?

The original Broadway production ran for more than 800
performances, Williams was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama,
and the movie earned 12 Oscar nominations. If you seen it before,
you'll want to see it again. If you haven't seen it yet, now you
know it's time.

"A superb drama.
(Tennessee) Williams is a genuinely poetic playwright...in the
most imaginative and perceptive play he has ever written. He has
spun a poignant and luminous story.
" ~ Brooks Atkinson, N Y Times
