Edible Plants of Pepperwood

Have you ever tasted a roasted bay nut, nettle
pesto or sautéed milk thistle greens?
Come explore the world of edible plants on Sunday, October 13, 2013 from
9am to 3pm at Pepperwood Preserve with Autumn Summers, teacher and program
coordinator for the California School of Herbal Studies. The class costs $35 and is suitable
for ages 14 and up. Register
online by searching for “Pepperwood” at www.brownpapertickets.com.

Class will begin inside with a lecture and
hands-on experience identifying fresh plants, cooking, and tasting the local
edibles. Then we’ll head out on some of Pepperwood’s many trails. Our focus will be on the
plants available during the fall season – acorns, bay nuts, manzanita, cattail,
madrone and others. Autumn will cover how to identify, properly harvest, store
and prepare our regional foods. We are surrounded by food
and medicine if we know what to look for!

Autumn Summers is a graduate from the California School of Herbal Studies where she currently is a
member of the teaching staff and the Program Coordinator. Past President of the
Sonoma County Herb Association, Summers completed a Bachelors Degree in
Anthropology with an Emphasis in Ethnobotany from Sonoma State University. Her
current focus is on teaching botany, edible and medicinal plant use, and
seaweed classes.
