Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon

Now in its fifth year, the Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon, presented by Subaru, unveils a new course for this year’s version of the wine harvest and Halloween themed run.  This years race starts in downtown Geyserville and runs over Canyon Rd., then down West Dry Creek and Dry Creek Roads into downtown Healdsburg for the finish next to City Hall on Grove St on Saturday October 27.

The post-race Wine & Music Festival is held in the City Hall parking lot from 9:30am to noon.  The festival features exhibitors, food, beer, wine tasting from 20 local vintners, a costume contest, face painting and pumpkin decoration for kids, and the Unauthorized Rolling Stones band.  The half marathon is sold out but spots still remain for the new Parkpoint Hallowine Run, which follows the final 3 miles of the course starting at Wilson Winery on Dry Creek Rd.  Online registration is open for the Hallowine Run at www.runhealdsburg.com.  You can also register at the Race Expo, held on Friday from 10:00am to 6:00pm at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa.

Nearly 2,500 runners from 40 different states will compete in the races.  In the women’s field, the favorite is Julia Stamps Mallon, one of the counties most decorated high school runners, and former All-American at Stanford University.  Julia won last years race with a course record 1:17:34.  The old course ran from Francis Ford Coppola Winery to Warm Springs Recreation Area.  Local Alex Wolf-Root, who finished third last year, is expected to compete for the men’s title.

The Healdsburg Wine Country Half Marathon is produced by Destination Races of Sonoma, California.  The Wine Country Half Marathon series consists of five races including Santa Barbara wine country, Northern Virginia, Napa-to-Sonoma, Oregon (Willamette Valley) and Healdsburg.  This year’s race benefits Girls of the Run of Sonoma County, Sunshine Rotary Club of Healdsburg, Native Sons of the Golden West, and Maria Carrillo, Healdsburg, Elsie Allen, and Geyserville High School athletics programs.  For more Information on the event series and Destination Races, go to www.destinationraces.com.
