Kombucha and other fermented beverages are favorites at SHED, not only for their unique tastes, effervescence and flavoring versatility, but for their pro-biotic qualities and health benefits. Join Jordan Lancer, our fermentation master, and learn how to inexpensively and easily make it at home!
The class will go through the entire process of using and caring for two types of SCOBYs (Symbiotic Communities of Bacteria and Yeast): a kombucha "mushroom" and water kefir "grains". Students will have the opportunity to see and sample both brews in different stages of the fermentation process.
Additionally the class will go over various natural flavoring technique and simple carbonation.
The workshop will also feature a discussion of lacto-fermented sodas and their starters and processes. Students will go home with a starter kit enabling them to begin their own kombucha brewing at home. Kit includes: gallon jar, starter tea, cloth, directions and one organic kombucha SCOBY.
