HHS football team catches a win over Sonoma

A review of the HHS football game vs. Sonoma Valley on October 14.

The Healdsburg High School football team played an impressive game against Sonoma on Friday night , October 14, 2011.

At half time, Healdsburg was in the lead with 17-7. During the third quarter, Sonoma scored, but missed the extra point, making the score 17-13, Greyhounds.

Mitch Mariani, the team's left tackle and defensive end,  said, "Our offense struggled but our defense kept us from having this game slip away from us. On offense we had a couple of turnovers because both of our running backs were out of the game, which stalled our offense."

During the fourth quarter, Healdsburg mainly punted the ball. "Sonoma made a couple of big plays and also converted on fourth down. It became pretty scary at that point," said Mariani.

Sonoma then threw the ball deep, but it was intercepted by Max Opperman with only 45 seconds left on the clock "to secure the win," said Charlie Conrad, a receiver and free safety.

Mariani said, "We had a tough time this game because the lack of players suited up." The effort was shown through the incredible win, but as Mariani stated, "We snuck out of the trap game our coach called."
