Cash Gets A Home

You may remember the stories, blogs, and newspaper articles about Cash.   Who was variously described as dangerous, vicious, and a dog that a local veterinarian stated was not a dog he would allow his grandchildren to approach.  As a mixture of Catahoula, Bull Dog, Mastiff, Great Dane and Pit Bull and weighing in at about 100 pounds he looks intimidating but hiding inside is a goofy puppy.Healdsburg Animal Shelter (RIP) claimed that Cash must be euthanized and he was only saved by Doug Keaton’s heroic effort, the details of which I won’t relate again.  Doug and I were the only volunteers at HAS that walked Cash and I found that once you got him away from HAS he was very calm and gentle, with kind of a goofy attitude. He ended up at Kings Kastle after his rescue and became a sort of symbol.  I went over and visited after a few weeks and Doug walked him out on a leash into the field where I was standing.  When I called him he came charging over to me and then reached down and picked up the leash and offered it to me as if to say “Get to work, take me for a walk”.  He still had his goofy attitude and charm.Doug spent nearly every day over at Kings Kastle working with Cash and hauling him around to his restaurant and home.  Cash loves nothing better than cruising around in a truck. So, finally Cash has found his perfect home.  Doug and his charming wife Lael have built him his own doggie condo with a run and access to a big play field.  These are the sort of outcomes that keep the volunteers working at animal shelters.
