A Novato man was killed and four people from Windsor injured in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 101 north of the Central San Rafael off ramp this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 64-year-old Novato man, whose identity has not yet been released, was driving a 1991 Toyota 4-Runner on northbound Highway 101 around 3 p.m. when he lost control for an unknown reason, according to Sgt. Shirley Lawson.
The vehicle struck the center divider wall, overturned, jumped the wall and struck a 2010 Honda Pilot in the second lane of southbound Highway 101.
The man was declared dead at Marin General Hospital, Lawson said.
All four people in the Honda were injured. The driver, 46-year-old Waleed Abdel Mageed, of Windsor, suffered moderate injuries, as did an 11-year-old boy. A 30-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but driver intoxication does not appear to be a factor, Lawson said.
The crash blocked two lanes on southbound Highway 101.
