3 Injured in Head-On Collision on River Road, Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Felony DUI

A Stockton man was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of felony DUI following a head-on injury collision on River Road in Sonoma County, the California Highway Patrol said.

At about 9:30 a.m., 25-year-old Joseph Torres III was driving his black 2001 Nissan Sentra with 31-year-old Thomas Leone in the passenger seat. He was heading westbound on River Road towards the small, unincorporated town of Rio Nido, according to the CHP.

Multiple 911 calls from motorists reported that the driver was passing other vehicles on the road, crossing double yellow lines and traveling at estimated speeds of up to 100 mph, the CHP said.

Torres was allegedly speeding on the country road where a white 2011 Toyota Corolla, driven by 66-year-old Kathleen Fenton, of Jenner, was traveling eastbound on River Road in Rio Nido, a CHP officer said.

Fenton attempted to turn left across River Road when Torres' vehicle struck her vehicle head-on at an unknown speed, according to the CHP.

All three occupants of the two vehicles were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries, the CHP said.

Fenton and Leone suffered major injuries and Torres suffered fractured ribs and lacerations, the CHP said.

A CHP officer arrested Torres on suspicion of felony DUI and booked him into the Sonoma County Jail.
