43 DUI arrests in Sonoma County over Memorial Day weekend

No fatal alcohol Involved collisions reported. One Injury DUI crash leaves 1 person injured this holiday weekend.

The Avoid the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force reported 43 DUI arrests over the holiday weekend which included Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The four-day campaign to reduce alcohol involved fatal and injury collisions reported no fatal DUI crashes. Unfortunately, there was one DUI injury crash that injured one person.

Details regarding the injury collisions were not available and the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Santa Rosa Area Office.

The AVOID the 13 DUI Task Force conducted a DUI/DL Checkpoint in Healdsburg on Saturday, May 28, between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. checking drivers both eastbound and westbound on Dry Creek Road at Frei Road.

During the checkpoint operation a total of 754 vehicles passed through the checkpoints and the drivers were screened by officers for alcohol and driver’s license violations.

Of the vehicles screened, 45 drivers were directed into a secondary screening area for further investigation. Of those, 33 were screened for DUI.

Two drivers registered a blood alcohol level of .06 percent, below the legal limit of .08 percent. None of the drivers evaluated for alcohol were arrested.

There were six other drivers issued citations for driving without a license. A total of four vehicles were towed, three of which were impounded for 30 days.

The statewide Memorial Day Holiday weekend DUI campaign ended Monday night May 30 at midnight.

Funding for the Avoid Campaign has been made by possible with grant funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
