UPDATE: Windsor Man Who Died of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound Identified

44-year-old man's shooting death was accidental, Sonoma County Coroner's Office said.

A 44-year-old man who died Friday after he accidentally shot himself has been identified as Windsor resident Richard Pinckard Jr., the Sonoma County coroner's office confirmed.

The shooting happened around 11:20 a.m. in the 2000 block of Silk Road south of Windsor in unincorporated Sonoma County near the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport, Sonoma County Sheriff Sgt. Carlos Basurto said.

Friends of the victim, who were in the home at the time of the shooting, were driving him to the hospital when they flagged down deputies in the 6000 block of Windsor Road.

The victim was then taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died, Basurto said.

Detectives determined there was no foul play and the wound was self-inflicted and seems to be accidental, Basurto said.

The weapon was recovered at the scene.

A 44-year-old Windsor man was found dead Friday by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after police responded to a reported a shooting incident.

Sonoma County sheriffs deputies responded to a 11:23 a.m. call at the 2000 block of Silk Road in Windsor for a reported shooting.

Deputies said it was reported that the victim was being transported to a hospital by friends who had been with him at the time of the shooting.

Responding deputies were flagged down in the 6000 block of Windsor Road by the friends of the victim, who had the victim in their vehicle with a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen.

The victim, a 44 year old male, was transported from Windsor Road to Sata Rosa Memorial Hospital via ambulance and later died from his injury.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Investigations units responded to conduct the investigation.

It was determined that there was no foul play and the victim died from a self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound. The weapon was recovered at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
