67-Year-old Woman Dies in Head-On Crash Near Jenner

A fatal head-on crash on State Route 1 north of Jenner this morning blocked traffic for more than three hours.

Dead is a 67-year-old Gualala woman whose identify has not yet been released.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Jon Sloat, CHP officers responded to a report  at 9:15 a.m. Thursday of a two-vehicle collision on SR 1 just north of Jenner.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that Jordan Tellez, 22, of San Francisco, was driving a 2007 Ford flatbed utility truck northbound at approximately 35 mph," Sloat said.

"A 67-year-old female from Gualala was driving a 1999 Volvo station wagon southbound, at approximately 40 mph.

"As the Volvo entered a curve, it drifted into the oncoming lane," Sloat said. "Tallez swerved to as far as he could to the right, but could not avoid the Volvo, and the vehicles struck head-on."

According to Sloat, the driver of the Volvo was pronounced deadat the scene. Tellez was not injured.

The lanes were blocked for approximately 3 1/2 hours. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, Sloat said.

The victim's name is being held pending notification.
