Bike Tour Generates Traffic Alerts from CHP

GranFondo Cycling Event is Saturday, Oct. 1 in Sonoma County.

On Oct. 1, western Sonoma County will play host to another running of Levi Leipheimer’s King Ridge GranFondo Cycling Event.

Levi’s GranFondo, now one of North America’s premier cycling events, will include 7,500 cyclists in a fundraising ride with three-time Tour of California winner, Olympic Bronze medalist and Santa Rosa resident Levi Leipheimer.

Temporary road closures will be in effect for the following routes during the following times:

7:50 AM - 8:30 AM--West College Avenue from Stony Point to Fulton
8:00 AM - 8:40 AM--Fulton from West College to Hall Road
8:05 AM - 8:50 AM--Sanford Road from Hall Road to Occidental Road
8:05 AM - 9:00 AM--Occidental Road from Sanford Road to Mill Station Road
8:10 AM - 9:15 AM--Mill Station Road from Occidental Road to Sullivan Road
8:10 AM - 9:30 AM--Sullivan Road from Mill Station Road to Graton Road
8:15 AM - 10:00 AM--Graton Road from Sullivan Road to Bohemian Highway
8:30 AM - 10:00 AM--Bohemian Highway from Graton Road to River Road.

Impacted areas will include:
Occidental, Duncan’s Mills, Cazadero to King Ridge Road, Hauser Bridge, Seaview, Meyers Grade, Highway 1, and Coleman Valley Road. This recreational ride will begin at the Finley Center in Santa Rosa at 8:00AM and return between 11:00 AM and 5:00PM. Additional information on impacts can be found at www.levisgranfondo.com/roads

Important points for local businesses and residents:
• The ride will be supported by the CHP, support vehicles, and course marshals.
• Route markings and signage will remind the riders to obey the traffic laws.
• Local fire and County sheriff’s departments are assisting with the ride.
• Oncoming traffic at intersections may be stopped periodically for large packs of riders.
• Traffic will be allowed to cross the course until the riders are approaching.
• Emergency vehicles will NOT be affected by road closures.
• We ask that residents exercise patience and foresight when driving in the area of this event.
Cautious driving and reduced speeds are very much appreciated.

The beneficiaries of the ride are the Humane Society’s Forget Me Not Farm, a program that uses rescued animals to help heal abused and neglected children, and VeloStreet’s Rural Services program, which supports volunteer fire departments and schools in the western region of Sonoma County.
