CHP Rescues Hiker at Shell Beach

Helicopter used to get man who fell 30 feet off cliff.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter was called in to help rescue a 30-year-old man who fell dozens of feet down a cliff at Shell Beach on the Sonoma County coast on Monday afternoon.

Bodega Bay fire officials and California State Parks rangers requested that the CHP assist with a cliff rescue at the beach around 3:50 p.m.

The man, a Sonoma County resident, had been hiking with a friend along the cliff edge when he fell about 30 feet into an area that was hard to reach, according to the CHP. The hiker suffered moderate injuries.

He was hoisted from the base of the cliff to the helicopter and
was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

CHP officials said the rescue took less than 10 minutes.
