The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a Santa Rosa man who died in a motorcycle crash south of Healdsburg on Saturday evening as 68-year-old Timothy Freed Neely.

California Highway Patrol officials said Neely crashed his motorcycle into a creek in the 4600 block of Westside Road.

The CHP responded at 5:58 p.m. to a report that a motorcyclist's head was submerged in a creek.

Emergency crews pronounced Neely dead at 6:10 p.m.

Neely was apparently speeding west on Westside Road and failed to negotiate a curve.

The motorcycle left the southern edge of the road and into the creek and Neely was ejected and plunged facedown into the water, according to the CHP.
