The Sonoma County coroner's office has identified a suspected burglar who died during a confrontation with Healdsburg police on Friday evening as 43-year-old Everardo Romo, of Geyserville.

Police said it appears Romo died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A resident called Healdsburg police at 7:58 p.m. Friday to report that an intruder had entered a home in the 100 block of Kennedy Lane, Lt. Matt Jenkins said.

One of the homeowners tried to detain the intruder, and when Healdsburg police arrived, a struggle ensued, Jenkins said. During the struggle, a firearm belonging to the intruder was discharged, police said.

Romo was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m. Friday, according to the coroner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Healdsburg police have not yet released the names of the officers who responded to the incident. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.
