A Richmond man whose SUV ran off Hwy 101 last night in Healdsburg died from his injuries, the Press Democrat is reporting.
The driver, identified as a 58-year old man with IDs from Oregon and Richmond, has not been identified pending notification. He suffered major injuries when his Toyota RAV-4 failed to navigate a sweeping left curve south of the Dry Creek exit at about 8 p.m., went down an embankment and ran directly into a redwood tree.
For force of the impact crushed the front of the vehicle and pushed the engine toward the driver’s compartment, the reports said. It took fire and police from Healdsburg and Geyserville 20 minutes to extricate the driver from the wreck.

No other vehicles were involved, and there were no passengers. At this point the cause of the accident is unknown and is under investigation.
The driver died of his injuries at about 12:30 am, according to the CHP.
