A fire destroyed a cabin in Guerneville Wednesday afternoon, Monte Rio Fire Protection District Chief Steve Baxman said.

The male occupant was standing outside the cabin at 17227 Old Monte Rio Home when he noticed flames in the two-room, 300- to 400-square-foot cabin, Baxman said.

Firefighters from Monte Rio, the Russian River Fire Protection District, Forestville and Cal Fire responded around 2 p.m. and extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes, Baxman said.

The Red Cross is helping the occupant find housing, Baxman said.

The fire started in a back room of the cabin. It is not considered suspicious, but the cause is under investigation, Baxman said.

There was a main house and a few cabins on the property, Baxman said.
