Graffiti, Grenades and Fireworks Violations

Healdsburg Police Log, July 1 – 7

Shortly after midnight on July 1, at 12:34 a.m. , three white males looked like they were squaring off for a fight on Healdsburg Ave. at the Healdsburger diner. They were gone upon police arrival.

Someone bent a stop sign at Johnston St. and Powell Ave, reported as vandalism at 8:13 a.m.  July 1.

At 8:46 a.m.  a hit-and-run accident was reported at Lola’s Market on Healdsburg Ave., as a man stated his vehicle had been hit at approximately 8 a.m. . An officer responded; surveillance cameras showed the apparent incident at that time involving a black Honda Civic.

Graffiti was reported at 9:53 a.m.  on White Gates Ave, as Officer Whitemore responded to a report of the moniker “MAR” painted on a car cover. The graffiti was similar to others found nearby, including graffiti reports on the morning of July 1 included a shed at Healdsburg High and two additional reports at or near the high school.

At 11:43 in the evening, a physical disturbance was reported at March Ave. and Lily St. by 911 callers; witnesses identified the two men who had apparently being fighting by name, and they were contacted by police and reported to the DA.

A prowler was reported at 1:32 a.m. , July 2, at Paloma Design Group on Sunset Dr. A woman reported she and her husband, housesitting at the Sibley residence, heard a dog barking then heavy male footsteps on the deck on the first level of the residence. The dog then “took off and RP could not find it.” Police responded, the dog returned, no other suspects were located, the husband of the caller suspected it was the dog.

Another prowler was reported at 2:20 a.m., when the property owner of a house on Ward Street said an unknown male was attempting to open the front door. Police responded; suspect gone on arrival.

At 8:13 a.m. on July2, a property manager on Healdsburg Ave. reported a family asleep in a van on the property. The two, Kenneth Lambert and Kathy Johnson, had previously been told they could not stay there. Officer Whitemore and Sgt. Rodriguez responded and told them they must move on, issuing a warning.

An apparently intoxicated man left O’Reilly Auto Parks at 11:16 a.m.  and drove away in a black or dark brown Chevy Impala southbound on Healdsburg Ave. Police were unable to locate.

A hit-and-run accident occurred at Safeway shortly after noon, at 12:57 p.m.  on July 2, but the driver apparently didn’t understand English and drove away instead of pulling over.

At 1:11 p.m. , a man possibly under the influence was reported inside at McDonald’s while his vehicle was outside. Officers Moore and Whitemore made contact with a 27 year old man who was not intoxicated but “had taken some medication.” He will walk home, and Off. Moore will drop off the vehicle keys at his father’s house.

Fraud was reported by a resident on North St at 2:07 p.m. , who said someone using his social security number had tried to obtain his bank balances at both Santa Rosa WestAmerica and Sebastopol WestAmerica. There was no lost money in the inquiries and the reporting party was supplied with information concerning identity theft.

A hit and run accident was reported at 4:09 p.m.  on July 2, but it apparently occurred a couple nights earlier on University Ave. at Sanns Lane.

At 4:22 p.m.  on Tuesday, July 2, a man walked into the Healdsburg Police Department with a hand grenade he had found by the Russian River near Redwood Dr. off N. Fitch Mountain. The county bomb squad was called, and the hand grenade was found to be a training unit and thus inert.

Graffiti of a swastika on park benches was reported at 11:32 p.m.  on July 2 at Giorgi Park, and again the next morning at 11:03 a.m.  on July 3 at Rec Park.

At 2:31p.m.  on Wednesday, a caller told police that a subject threatened to blow up American River Bank on Center St., upon being told he didn’t have an account there. The subject smelled of alcohol, and was last seen headed northbound from the bank; he was described as a white adult male, dark hair, tan skin, wearing a tie-dyed SF Giants t-shirt, shorts and a baseball hat. Three officers responded and located Clinton Smith, 45, arrested him and transported him to county jail.

At 1:27 a.m.  on Thursday, July 4, a man reported that he was assaulted at the bar of Frank and Ernie’s on Mitchell Lane. Officer Garcia responded and talked to the bartender, who said she asked the man to leave and he became angry. Garcia spoke with the man over the phone and advised him of his options; assignment complete.

At 2:25 a.m. a bit later that morning another disturbance was reported at Healdsburg and Plaza St.

At 11:27 a.m. , subjects drinking alcohol in an older dark green BMW at the Safeway parking lot were reported. They were gone on officers’ arrival.

At 11:41 a.m. , a fireworks violation was reported at Kennedy Lane Beach. Other fireworks violations in the evening near the American Legion fireworks were reported at 8:51 p.m.  on Monte Vista Ave.; at 10:44 on March Ave and Lily St.; and at 11:57 p.m.  at Fitch Mountain Elementary School.

Shortly after midnight on July 5, at 12:34 a.m. , two females and a male left the Spoonbar without paying, and got into a silver 4WD vehicle and left the scene. A be-on-the-lookout was issued.

On Friday, July 5, 11 attempts to serve warrants on various suspects at various addresses in Healdsburg resulted in no successful services. All were Gone on Arrival or Unable to Locate.

At 10:47 p.m.  on July 5, Charles A. Ross, 48, was arrested for DUI on Brown St. and transported to county jail.

At 11:42 p.m. , a very intoxicated male was reported walking eastbound on Powell Ave., approaching University Ave. He was described as a short Hispanic male with dark hair and dark clothing. Sgt. Haviland checked the area and was unable to locate.

Graffiti violations were reported at 11:53 p.m.  at Paul Wittke Dr. and Healdsburg Ave., and at 1:55 a.m.  on July 6 at Railroad Depot on Harmon St. The Paul Wittke graffiti was described as blue and black graffiti on the wall; there was no description of the Railroad Depot graffiti.

Another fireworks violation was reported at 12:27 a.m.  on July 6, at the intersection of Vine and Matheson. Witnesses noticed four males standing in the northeast corner of the Safeway parking lot and thought they were the responsible parties. An officer contacted the four, and they admitted to setting off fireworks. They were warned and advised, and they left without charges.

A reckless driver was reported by a 911 caller near the 7-Eleven store on Healdsburg Ave, at 12:01 p.m.  on July 6. The vehicle was reported as pulling sharply in front of two vehicles, and was last seen entering the 7-11 lot, with a male driver and female passenger. Vehicle was gone on arrival.

Public intoxication and/or alcohol violations were reported in the early hours of Sunday, July 7, at Center and Matheson, Healdsburg and Matheson and Safeway on Vine St. No citations were issued.

A non-injury accident was reported at the Togo’s parking lot on Healdsburg Ave. at 11:53 a.m.  on July 7. Margarito Diaz Santiago, 21, was cited for driving without a license; his vehicle was left at the business.

At 9:05 p.m.  on July 7, a report was taken of verbal or physical disturbance in the 200 block of Grant St. Officer Eland responded, “contacted the responsible subjects and they were advised of the complaint and will turn it down.”

At 10:23 p.m. , a verbal argument was reported at the high school grounds across from the tennis courts. Officer Eland and Sgt. Haviland responded, contacted the group and told them they had been a little loud. No further action was deemed necessary.
