Healdsburg police launch schools crosswalk enforcement

Drivers who violate crosswalk regulations to be issued citations.

Healdsburg Police Department is launching targeted crosswalk enforcement in and around the public schools.

"Please remember to drive safely and yield to pedestrians that are crossing the roadway," said Healdsburg Police Lt. Kevin Young, who issued the notice Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Healdsburg police took two men into custody in separate incidents of probation violation or warrant service.

Robert Lee Whitmire, 45, of Sonoma, was arrested at 11:31 p.m. Friday at a home on Alexander Valley Road, Healdsburg, on suspicion of possessing alcohol, a violation of his formal felony probation, police said.

Healdsburg police said they took Whitmire to Sonoma County Jail. Jail staff said Tuesday that Whitmire was still in custody and was scheduled for a hearing on the charges at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sonoma County Superior Court.

Also arrested over the weekend was Arturo Rodriguez, 38, of Santa Rosa. Healdsburg police said they took Rodriguez into custody at 11:43 p.m. Friday at Healdsburg Avenue and Dry Creek Road on an outstanding Sonoma County warrant.

Police said the warrant was for failure to appear in Sonoma County Superior Court on a prior traffic violation. Rodriguez was released on $2,500 bail with a citation to appear in court at a later date, police said.
