Kirkland Police arrested former University of Washington and pro football star Jerramy Stevens early Monday morning on a domestic violence charge for allegedly striking his fiancee, Olympics soccer star Hope Solo.
Kirkland police spokesman Lt. Mike Murray said Tuesday Stevens, 33, was arrested after a call at 3:45 a.m. about a disturbance among eight people at a residence in Kirkland in the 6400 block of NE 138th Place. That’s on Finn Hill in Kirkland, the neighborhood where Solo purchased a home for $1.2 million earlier this year.
A stun gun was allegedly used in the incident, and Kirkland Fire Department personnel treated a 31-year-old female suffering from a laceration to the elbow, a 32-year-old female suffering from a hip injury, and a 34-year-old male suffering from multiple bumps, scrapes and contusions. Solo is 31.
Stevens was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic violence and the victim, according to Kirkland police, was Stevens’ fiancee.
Stevens made an appearance in Kirkland Municipal Court Tuesday and was released without bail. Seattlepi.com reported that Judge Micahel Lambo released Stevens after saying there was "zero" evidence connecting him to the assault.
KING 5 News reported the 911 call was made by Solo’s brother, and that Stevens and Solo were scheduled to get married Tuesday. The argument, the TV station reported, was about whether the couple would live in Washington or Florida.
Murray did not deny but would not confirm the victim was Solo, a two-time Olympic gold-medal winner, saying Kirkland police do not usually release information on victims of domestic violence.
Stevens is a former star University of Washington and Seattle Seahawks tight end who was released in 2010 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being charged with felony marijuana possession. He has a long history of legal trouble dating back to his high school playing days in Lacey, Wash., including DUI charges in 2003 and 2007, the latter while he was with the Seattle Seahawks.
Solo, who played soccer for UW, was also in the courtroom on Tuesday, according to KING 5. She earned a gold medal with the U.S. soccer team at last summer's Olympic games in London. She purchased in April the 5,330-square foot house on Finn Hill, a four-bedroom, 3.5-bath home with pool, hot tub and cabana.
A Kirkland police press release said that officers found several people at the residence who appeared intoxicated and were uncooperative. But based on information and observations of the scene, Stevens was arrested for assaulting the female resident, who suffered a laceration to her elbow, apparently Stevens’ fiancee.
The woman with the hip injury and the man with scrapes and bruises said they had been assaulted by a man who had come to the party but left before police arrived. They said they didn’t know him and provided only a vague description.
