Knife Threat at High School Not Gang Related, Say Police

Two Healdsburg juveniles were involved in a "brandishing" incident at last night's softball games

A 17-year old Healdsburg boy was arrested last night, following an incident where he allegedly brandished a knife at another student.

The incident occurred at the High School during or after one of the varsity softball games at the school's playing field, on Monte Vista Ave. It was reported to police at 6:49 p.m., apparently by a parent.

A varsity softball game with Petaluma at the campus was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. last night.

Sgt. John Haviland said that the two youths, including the 16-year old alleged victim, knew each other and it was "absolutely not a gang-related thing."

The 16-year old told the responding officer, Officer Whitmore, that he was walking to his car following watching a game on the varsity field. His car was parked next to the school near the tennis courts.

He said another car pulled up and the driver, who he identified, got out, pulled out a folding knife and threatened him.

The 17-year old was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a knife and making criminal threats. His name is not made public as he is a juvenile.

Although last night's incident happened near the tennis courts, where a week ago two men had been stabbed in what is believed to be a gang-related incident, that does not seem to be the case here, Sgt. Haviland emphasized.

Haviland also acknowledged that there had been no progress on last week's stabbing incident.
