Overturned Vehicle Catches Fire, Driver Flees

Last night in West Santa Rosa, a Mutsubishi Lancer overturned and caught fire. The driver, Kenneth Lee Sackett, Jr, of Santa Rosa fled the scene when freed. He has been arrested.

At approximately 6:34 p.m. CHP officers responded to a call of an overturned Mitsubishi Lancer on Willowside Rd at Hall Rd. While officers were enroute they were advised that the vehicle was on fire with multiple occupants inside.

Several people stopped to assist the occupants out of the vehicle. One person with a fire extinguisher began to put out the fire.

Once out of the vehicle the driver fled on foot.

Laura Stout, 42, of Santa Rosa, and William Rathjen, 48, of Santa Rosa, both passengers, were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.

CHP officers and Sheriff’s deputies began a search including the creekside trail that runs through the area.

At approximately 8:30 a deputy located the driver on Fulton Rd. at West 3rd St., where he had walked to along the trail.

The driver was identified as Kenneth Lee Sackett, Jr, 33, of Santa Rosa. Sackett was found to have a suspended license and prior convictions for DUI and driving while suspended.

Sackett was transported to Memorial with moderate injuries. He has been arrested and faces charges of felony hit and run and driving while suspended.

It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision.
