Rohnert Park Girl, 17, Killed in Solo-Car Crash Tuesday Night

The teen was a passenger in a Honda apparently speeding on a narrow road west of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, CHP says.

The California Highway Patrol has identified the teen who was killed in a solo-vehicle crash in unincorporated Sonoma County on Tuesday night as 17-year-old Ashley Carlson of Rohnert Park.

Carlson, a student at Rancho Cotate High School, was a passenger in a 2008 Honda Civic that was traveling south on Llano Road south of Todd Road around 7:50 p.m., CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The Honda was apparently speeding on the narrow road west of Santa Rosa when the driver, Ashley Kellogg, 18, of Rohnert Park, lost control of the vehicle, Sloat said.

The Honda left the west shoulder of the road and struck a tree, then continued south and struck a telephone pole, Sloat said. Kellogg suffered minor injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Brenton Deveraux, 18, of Santa Rosa, another passenger in the Honda, suffered major injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

He also was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Sloat said.

All three teens were wearing seat belts and air bags in the car deployed, Sloat said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, he said.
