Spill From Overturned Oil Tanker Closes Hwy 1 in Sonoma County

An oil tanker overturned on state Highway 1 this morning, spilling 5,600 gallons of oil onto the roadway and into a dry creek bed north of Jenner in Sonoma County, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The CHP reported the incident at 11 a.m. and closed the highway in both directions at state Highway 116, CHP Officer Nicole Brigstock said.

Caltrans crews also responded to the spill. The oil tanker driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, Brigstock said.

State Highway 1 is expected to be closed in the area for at least six hours, Brigstock said shortly before noon.
