Witnesses Attempt To Save Deceased Motorcyclist, 68, After Crash in Healdsburg
The man was ejected from his motorcycle into a creek off Westside Road Saturday evening.
Witnesses attempted to save a 68-year-old Santa Rosa man who ultimately died after he crashed his motorcycle into a creek in Sonoma County this evening, the California Highway Patrol said.
At 5:58 p.m., CHP officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Westside Road, just south of Healdsburg, where a motorcyclist had crashed into a creek.
CHP officers said they received a report that the motorcyclist's head was submerged under water when rescuers reached him.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and pronounced the rider deceased at 6:10 p.m., the CHP said.
The preliminary investigation into the deadly crash revealed that the motorcyclist was speeding while traveling west on Westside Road, according to the CHP.
The motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve in the road and traveled off the southern edge of the roadway and into a creek.
The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and plunged face down into the water, the CHP said.
The identity of the deceased man is not being released by the Sonoma County coroner's office until notification of his next of kin.
