A woman got a scare on Saturday night when she found a strange man in the back seat of her car as she drove away from a Windsor convenience store, a Sonoma County sheriff's sergeant said Monday.

The 53-year-old woman, who lives in Windsor, parked outside the Quick Shop and Deli at 8197 Old Redwood Highway around 10:25 p.m. and went inside.

A short time later as she drove away from the store with her purchases, a man in the backseat confronted her, Sgt. Shannon McAlvain said.

The woman jumped from the car and yelled for help as she ran back to the convenience store, McAlvain said. The suspect then fled.

He is described as a Hispanic man between 25 and 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He was wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Deputies assigned to the Windsor Police Department arrived within a few minutes and found the woman's car on Shadetree Drive just east Old Redwood Highway. They began a search but did not find the suspect.

The woman did not know the man, and the incident is considered an attempted kidnapping, McAlvain said.
