Do You Want a Psychic Reading With Your Glass of Wine?

Healdsburg Planning Commission looks at application for psychic palm and card reading business on Healdsburg Avenue.

Healdsburg's downtown may have a lot of wine tasting rooms, but as far as psychic readers, maybe not.

That could change if Healdsburg Planning Commission decides to recommend approval of a new psychic palm and card reading business at its meeting Tuesday night. The meeting is at 6 p.m. at Healdsburg City Hall.

A Healdsburg zoning administrator has determined that the proposed use is not permitted because it is "not similar to other types of permitted uses in the commercial district..."

Planning Commissioners could opt to agree with the zoning administrator's decision or they could take some other action, such as amending the city's land use code to allow for such businesses.

No reason with all the other uses and the existing sign limits this person should not be allowed to open.

I agree and think it would be nice to expand our horizons a bit.

Why would the planning commission need to approve a Psychic, when they approve all the wine tasting rooms. Almost every town in California has a Psychic in it. Why shouldn't Healdsburg have a Psychic ?

Having read in the staff report that the city has the policing power to protect the "character" of Healdsburg I wonder if the planning commission would even be able to define what that character is and if they would be brave enough to admit that maybe churches should be included in the definition of Personal Services too.
