Fitch Mtn. Group 'Reclaims' Its Walls

New improvement project for the neighborhood.

 

Fitch Mountain residents will continue this weekend to reclaim and beautify two concrete retaining walls as part of the community's annual improvement project.

Two such walls in the area have become tarnished with graffiti, said Dave Henderson of the Fitch Mountain Association, a nonprofit group that represents those who live on Fitch Mountain.

"This year, FMA is “reclaiming” the two large concrete retaining walls at the intersection of South Fitch Mountain Road and Spring Street, on either side of the stop sign there," he said. "The walls have been the frequent target of graffiti and look horrible, thus seriously affecting the beauty of our neighborhood."

This year's project is taking place on three successive weekends: It started last Sunday, July 15, and will continue on Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 29.

"FMA members will scrape and power-wash them, then apply several coats of paint," Henderson said. "We will then monitor the walls in the future, remove any graffiti that appears, and ensure that the walls remain in a condition that contributes to the visual beauty of our environment."
