Flight School Approved for Healdsburg Airport
Robert Markwood, who currently teaches pilots on a flight simulator at the airport, plans to open a flight school there.
The Healdsburg Airport is about to get a little busier.
A flight school with five planes and up to 10 takeoffs and landings per day was approved this week by the Healdsburg City Council, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.
The flight school, proposed by Robert Markwood, faced opposition from some neighbors of the airport concerned about noise or possible aircraft crashes.
“He isn't somebody who is going to let dangerous things happen over the skies of Healdsburg,” the Press Democrat quoted Healdsburg City Council Member Shaun McCaffrey as saying. “This isn't going to become Healdsburg International.”
The newspaper reports 30 people spoke at Monday's council meeting, and were "evenly divided" in their support or opposition to the project.
