Healdsburg City Council to Consider Animal Control Contract

The 4th of July in Healdsburg and picking up what the Animal Shelter left behind on City's agenda Monday night.

The next meeting of the Healdsburg City Council is Monday June 17. The meeting will be called to order at 6:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 Grove St.

Among the topics to be discussed in New Business will be the terms of the contract worked out of the past week by the City of Healdsburg and the County Animal Care and Control department, to cover the loss of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter due to its board’s announcement last week.

The County currently covers off-hours and weekends for the animal control issues that the HAS had provided; the contract is a temporary extension that provides a “bridge” to the time when  the city can decide on a further course of action.

According to City Manager Marjie Pettus, as reported by Patch last week, the city is preparing a RFP (request for proposals) from parties interested in taking over full care, control and sheltering services formerly handled by the now-defunct Healdsburg Animal Shelter.

The meeting also provides a glimpse of the Old Fashioned 4th of July Community Celebration town’s various organizations have in the works, including:

  • A free community picnic at the Plaza (sponsored by Healdsburg Sunrise Rotary);
  • Pancake Breakfast at Villa Chanticleer (Boy Scout Troop 41);
  • Prune Packers baseball game at Recreation Park;
  • and traditional fireworks at the High School (American Legion Sotoyome Post 111).
 All this on Thursday, July 4.
