111 Healdsburg 4th, 5th and 6th Graders Named 'Super Striders'

Certificates based on April STAR test results.

A total of 111 students at campus of Healdsburg Elementary School were honored Wednesday as academic "Super Striders" based on their

"We have 380 students at Fitch, so that's almost a third of them who are in the outstanding group," said Annie Millar, acting principal at Fitch and the Healdsburg Unified School District's director of curriculum and instruction. "We're extremely proud."

Millar and Jeff Harding, HUSD superintendent, called out the students' names and gave each one a certificate at the school board meeting Wednesday at before a standing-room-only crowd of happy parents and kids.

"This shows a strong character for both the parents and the students," said HUSD board . "That counts even more than test scores."

Millar said some of the "Super Striders" categories and numbers of students were:

--70 or more points of improvement from the prior year: 4

--Perfect scores: 9

--Advanced for 2010 and 2011: 89

Students were in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades when they took the STAR test in April. With the start of school last month, they are now 4th, 5th and 6th graders.

"This is a great event," Crowell said.
