Counseling Corner

Do you know the answer to the following questions: How many units may a community college student take pass/fail and still be eligible to transfer to a UC? How can a family negotiate for more financial aid? What do you mean "Congrats on Your College Rejection?", Did you know that Community College students who did not receive a Cal Grant award offer for the March 2 deadline now have a new window of opportunity? Do you know who was accepted to Wheaton College or UC Davis or Tufts or Willamette, etc.? Read the newest newsletter at www.husd.com under counseling.

Center for Independent Study- Apply for next fall. The Center for Independent Study is on the Healdsburg High School campus in room 92. We offer high school students an alternative to the traditional high school experience. Teachers and students meet weekly to go over work, discuss upcoming assignments, and evaluate progress. Before the next meeting with the teacher, the student is responsible for completing the assigned work on his/her own. Our curriculum follows Healdsburg High School and California State standards, and students maintain all the privileges of a regular high school student. Students may combine independent study with attendance at Healdsburg High School, Santa Rosa Junior College, and work/job experience. They may take up to two classes on the main campus. Contact your child's counselor for an application and brochure, or call Mr. Levin at 431-3100. www.hhscis.org.

AAUW to sponsor 22nd annual Historic Healdsburg Homes Tour-On Sunday, May 6, 2012, seven of historic Healdsburg's finest homes will be showcased on a self-guided walking tour sponsored by the American Association for University Women (AAUW). Guests check in at the Healdsburg Museum, 221 Matheson St. (corner of Fitch St.), from 11:30a-3:00p; homes are open for touring from 1:00-4:30 pm. Knowledgeable docents will be on hand at each home to provide information about the homes' unique history and distinctive architectural features. The tour also features a wine country raffle with gift certificates for Healdsburg's acclaimed local restaurants, wineries, and hotels and inns. All proceeds from the tour and raffle support local public education and individual scholarships. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 day of the tour, and may be purchased at Levin & Co.
