HUSD Students Trending Up in Academic Performance Test
API results, announced by HUSD today, show five consecutive years of point increases in all HUSD schools in topics such as language arts, English-language learner programs.
Healdsburg Unified School District students increased their scores significantly in the district’s Academic Performance Index (API) for the 2010/11 school year, HUSD Superintendent Jeff Harding said in a news release today.
"It's a that the scores continue to improve " Harding said. "Congratulations to all HUSD staff!"
Harding said the 2010/2011 Accountability Progress Report that included the new scores was released by the California Department of Education.

Harding said the increase marks the fifth consecutive year of improvement for Healdsburg students.
He released charts indicating a long-term pattern of outstanding instruction in the classroom.

In addition, Harding detailed increases at specific Healdsburg schools. Those were:
--Healdsburg Elementary School and Fitch Mountain Campus experienced the most significant school improvement with an increase of 24 points in the API, following a 39-point increase last year! School-wide gains were realized in English/Language Arts, with noteworthy improvements for Hispanic, White, Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and English Learner subgroups. Proficiency for Hispanic students increased to 43.5 percent from 33.7 percent last year.
--At Healdsburg Junior High School, language arts proficiency for Students with Disabilities improved from 11 percent proficient to 33 percent proficient suggesting that the new Read-180 program has been effective. Following a gain of 38 points last year, the scores for the junior high school slid slightly due to declines in proficiency by Hispanic students and English Language Learners. Gains were made by White students and Students with Disabilities in math and language arts.
--Proficiency rates at Healdsburg High School increased in 21 of 22 areas. Most notably, school-wide English/Language Arts proficiency increased to 69.4 percent of all HHS students demonstrating proficiency in English. Math proficiency increased by nearly 9 percent to 61.3 percent..
Harding noted that the API results are the second major indicator in recent months that HUSD "is providing outstanding educational service to our students," he said.
