HHS Internship Sponsors Honored at Ceremony Monday

Healdsburg High internship program a big success.

Develop new plans for the create afterschool programs for the and plan a wedding and a biking tour. 

They may be barely able to drive, but 35 students have gained valuable real life experience after participating in that paired them with professional mentors in the community.

On Monday, the grads will share their experiences at a celebration at . Also, some 22 Healdsburg Area businesses and civic groups who gave the teens their internship opportunities will be honored.

The event is not open to the public. However, those involved want the community to know they are very grateful for the public's participation.

" will be recognizing the extraordinary contribution made by 22 local organizations as sponsors of 35 interns this spring," said Todd Everett, internship program coordinator.

"As you know, John Camp's junior English class worked on projects under the tutelage of a mentor every Wednesday from Jan. 25 to April 25," Everett said.

"On May 16 and 31, the interns presented their projects to a panel of school administrators, faculty, mentors, and fellow students."

In addition to meeting weekly with their mentors, students kept a journal and did the May presentations, along with a written report about the experience, Everett said.

Earlier this year organizers said that the pilot program was so successful that it will likely be offered to juniors at in the years to come.

"A lot of times we focus only on academics and we don't talk about the world of work," said HHS Principal Chris Vanden Heuvel. "This kind of education is also relevant to high school students."
