Healdsburg Owls Drop Season Ender to Santa Rosa 5-2

Wine Country Baseball wraps-up the final 2011 regular season games Saturday.

The (1-9) ended their regular season Saturday afternoon with a disappointing 5-2 loss to the Santa Rosa Gnats (9-2) at at While both teams made strong showings, Santa Rosa maintained control throughout the game.

Gnat Richie Rowland went three for four at the plate while teammate Casey Hillman collected three RBI's by hitting two doubles during his four at bats.  

Owls manager David Hunter has high hopes for the next year's season.  With the focus next year on collegiate players looking to improve their skills, he anticipates a stronger player commitment to the teams.  "I used 7 different players at shortstop during 13 games this year" he said.

He explained that outside responsibilities made it hard for the players to make that games. Hunter regularly only had 11 of his 17 players at a game.

The Gnats scored five runs on 10 hits and with two errors.  The Owls scored two runs on eight hits while making one error.

Santa Rosa advances to the season playoffs this Thursday to try and capture the eague championship for the second year in a row.

Playoffs for the league start Wednesday at Arnold Field in Sonoms. Due to ongoing renovations at Rec Park, the league was unable to hold the playoffs there, a league spokesman said.
