Boots, Beans & Brews

Social Butterfly Vickie Norris reports on the happenings around town.

Boots, Beans & Brews: Mike’s Chili Feed & Hootenanny held Sunday, September 16th at Richard’s Grove & Saralee’s Vineyard was a whopping success with almost 400 participants interacting with Supervisor Mike McGuire.

The event was catered by Ken Rochioli serving up his delicious Sonoma County Chili with appetizers and desserts by Costeaux Bakery. Bear Republic brews and local wines from Alexander Valley Vineyard, Hafner Vineyard, Jim Town, Olive Ridge Estate, Portalupi Wine Company, Wilson Fleming Estate, David Coffaro Estate Vineyard quenched thirsty attendees.

The Gateway 4-H Windsor provided the “Gateway 4-H Little Buckeroo Zone & Petting Zoo”. It was just too cute with little baby pigs and goats, momma goats, rabbits, chickens and hamsters to the delight of many children.

In the tradition of Supervisor Mike McGuire, he was all encompassing, making everyone feel welcome, well fed and entertained. It was a great mix of people. Along with us average “Joe” supporters were community leaders and politicians who were the actual servers for lunch.

We were entertained by the wonderful band Chris Rovetti and the Meatballs playing a great mix of bluegrass, country and other cover songs.

Planning Commissioner Jason Liles gave opening remarks and Jill Ravitch, Sonoma County District Attorney, recognized the many politicians attending.

Supervisor McGuire gave his report on Sonoma County in his truthful but upbeat way.

Supervisor McGuire reports that Sonoma County jobs are down by 22,000 or one-third of the workforce but that it is the number one priority of the Board of Supervisors to get Sonoma County back to work. They are hopeful because visitors, sales tax, bed tax and property tax are all up over last year.

He reports that the County will invest in career technology, help businesses get through the permitting process and improve roads. And he reports that the airport will be expanding and they will be adding flights to Denver, Guadalajara, and Phoenix in the near future.

The afternoon was wrapped up with more live music and the Cloverdale football team passing the “boot” to raise money for their sports program.
