Healdsburg Weekend Planner Dec. 9 - 11

We're running out of weekends in 2011. Make the most of this one with short films, kids' plays, good eats and drinks, and breakfast with Santa.


Friday, Dec. 9
“Hugo” opens at the. A very visual, intriguing family film about the origins of movie making from master filmmaker Martin Scorsese. It’s made for 3D but even in regular screening as at the Raven, this is one of the year’s best. With kid actors Asa Butterfield and Chloe Moretz and grown-ups Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen and Christopher Lee. Rated PG; showtimes (1:30), (4:10), 6:50, 9:20

Saturday, Dec. 10:
Here's another chance to have breakfast with Santa at , 417 Healdsburg Ave, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

will screen in an “ultra high tech private screening room in the Healdsburg hills,” which you will only find out when you purchase a ticket. These are selections from the , first held last summer. There are 2-hour film batches three times a day, both Saturday and Sunday, at 2, 4 and 6 p.m; each session is $25.

, Gallery of Fine Art presents local sculptor, in a special book signing event on Saturday, Dec. 10. Local Healdsburg author & journalist has written “T30 Three Decades of Excellence,”  a book about T Barny. Illustrator and graphic designer Joey Manfre has added his touch to the book as well.

Stop in at Just For You, 115 Plaza St., Healdsburg, for all three signatures: T Barny, Ray Holleyand Joey Manfre from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday for this special book signing and art reception. Just For You Gallery of Fine Art celebrates their one year anniversary on Dec. 10.

The will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. at . A $50 ticket gets you all the crab, pasta, salad, dessert and wine you like. This is the Rotary's main fundraiser of the year supporting many deserving causes in our community.

Saturday at 7 p.m., Gerald Asher, one of the most popular and prolific of wine writers, will be the guest speaker at the . Among the Gourmet Magazine columnist’s books are “On Wine” (1982) and the recent “A Vineyard in My Glass” (2011). , $20 for WLASC members, $25 public.

Sunday, Dec. 11
Anyone shopping this Sunday, by chance? You might try the all day at the , 130 Plaza St. It’s free to visit, and chances are high that you’ll find something unique to gift for the holidays.

Play pin-the-nose on the reindeer at from 1 – 4 Sunday afternoon. There will be games, music, food, special prices and prizes, including a chance to win a free year-long membership in Topel’s wine club. Topel is on Matheson St. just off the Plaza.

At 3 p.m., music lovers will enjoy the annual to be held at , 1100 University Ave., $10. Come and hear the chorus sing an uplifting mix of old and new, lively and lilting melodies to put you in the spirit of the season. Program will be repeated Monday Dec. 12th at 7 p.m.
