Help Celebrate Green Hair Day Thursday

Proceeds from the event will help stamp out polio.

will be sponsoring their second annual “Green Hair Day” on Thursday, March 17.

The event will begin at 6 a.m. at 439 Healdsburg Ave., in conjunction with the Healdsburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade that starts at 7 a.m. at

Green hair day was the brainchild of our local Rotarians. Rotary International has partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to eliminate polio in many emerging countries.

“There has been an upsurge of polio in these areas so Rotary has taken on this global project on to eradicate it worldwide,” said Gil Igleheart, co-chairperson of the local project.

The Healdsburg Rotary Club is pushing Rotary International to make green hair day an annual event nationwide.

“This is an enormous opportunity for people to make a huge impact worldwide," said Richard Norgrove, owner of the . Where else with a small donation can you be assured that your donation will not only prevent this devastating decease but keep all of the families of the victim from having to endure the effects of polio.” 

A contribution to this fundraiser will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk.
